How Much You Should Tip in Every Situation
If you’ve ever wondered how much you should tip a waiter, bartender, cab driver, hotel bellman, or barista, look no further.
I’d much rather the price of my meal included paying the server a fair wage, making a tip a true gratuity rather than an obligation.
I recently had the odd experience of eating at the same restaurant several nights in a row…made me realize just how arbitrary tipping based on % of the bill is. But restaurants want it that way because it forces their servers to push-sell you on desert, drinks, etc. Hate feeling guilty when I have “just water” or want to share an entree.
I, also, would rather they were paid decently, and weren’t dependent on people remembering that’s how they make their money. As a waitstaff, you’re working hard all shift whether or not people remember to tip you. That’s not cool, when people just decide to not pay you.
