The Holocaust

Ghetto Life

Ghettos were closed off by walls, or fences with barbed wire. Starvation, shortages of supplies, severe winter weather, inadequate and unheated housing, and little to no help from the government only made things worse(Click here or here for videos of life in the ghettos). Epidemics of disease broke out due to the unsanitary conditions.

Despite all this, Jews attempted to make a life there for themselves.

Ghetto Resistance

Over time, the Germans deported thousands of people froom the ghettos. Some escaped to return with horrific tales, and while many did not believe them, they did believe that faced with armed resistance, the Germans would back down, not wanting a rebellion to spread.
